Award-Winning Golden Valley Home Remodeler
Golden Valley grew from pastoral farmland along Bassett Creek into one of the west metro’s richest pockets of mid-century modern architecture. Development took off in the 1950s and 1960s as a first-ring Minneapolis suburb, and the Tyrol Hills neighborhood, first platted in 1934 and largely built out between 1940 and 1970, became known for architect-designed homes tucked into wooded, rolling terrain that other developers had avoided. Elsewhere in the city, more modest ramblers and split-levels filled in toward the western boundary. Boyer Building Corporation is a Golden Valley remodeler familiar with both the architect-designed mid-century homes and the more standard ramblers that make up the rest of the city’s housing stock.
Golden Valley Home Remodeling Experts
Golden Valley’s mid-century homes, particularly in Tyrol Hills, were often designed with specific architectural intent, low-slung rooflines, walls of windows, and open, informal plans, and a remodeler needs to understand that intent before changing anything. We’ve learned how to update mechanicals and systems in these homes without disrupting the design details that make them distinctive, and how Golden Valley’s more standard 1950s and 1960s ramblers differ in construction from their architect-designed neighbors. That distinction shapes every Golden Valley project from the first conversation.

Boyer Building Corporation Remodeling Services
Golden Valley’s housing stock runs from architect-designed mid-century homes to standard post-war ramblers, and each calls for its own approach.
Kitchen Remodeling – Many Golden Valley kitchens date to the mid-century era and were built for a more closed-off, compartmentalized style of cooking. We rebuild these into open, functional kitchens while preserving the architectural character that defines homes in neighborhoods like Tyrol Hills.
Bathroom Remodeling – Bathrooms in Golden Valley’s mid-century homes are often original or updated only once. We rework these into current, well-finished spaces that respect the home’s design era.
Decks, Porches, and Three-Season Spaces – Golden Valley’s wooded lots along Bassett Creek and its rolling Tyrol Hills terrain are well suited to decks and patios designed to take advantage of the site.
Great Rooms and Main-Level Renovations – Many Golden Valley mid-century homes were built with an open, informal living plan already in place, though scaled to 1950s and 1960s expectations. We rework fireplaces, ceilings, and sightlines to better suit how families gather today.
Lower Level Finishing – Lower levels in Golden Valley’s ramblers and split-levels are frequently unfinished or finished with dated materials. We rebuild these into true living space suited to the current family’s needs.
Exterior Renovation – Exterior remodels are where homes can change identity completely. We coordinate siding, windows, doors, roofing, and trim as one design decision rather than a series of separate projects. The result is an exterior that is truly cohesive.
Home Office – A spare bedroom or den in a Golden Valley home is a common candidate for conversion into a dedicated home office.
Bedroom and Primary Suite – Primary suites in mid-century homes are often compact by today’s standards. We reconfigure these into composed, efficient suites with updated finishes.
Specialties – We work with homeowners to reimagine their home with tasteful entrances, stairways, mudrooms, and game rooms. We not only add to their homes’ beauty but also to their utility with thoughtful design and construction.

Remodeling FAQs
All new construction and remodeling work comes with a written warranty that meets or exceeds Minnesota statutory requirements: one year on workmanship and materials, two years on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, and ten years on major structural elements. Beyond the warranty, our team responds to questions and small follow-up items for years after a project closes — that’s part of how referrals get earned.
Recent recognition includes 2025 NARI-MN Remodeler of the Year Gold and Silver awards, the 2025 Housing First ROMA awards, Lake Minnetonka Magazine’s 2024 and 2025 “Best Of” recognition in both the Remodeler and Builder categories, and multiple NARI-MN Contractor of the Year wins going back through 2023. Awards aren’t the reason to hire a builder, but they’re a useful signal that the work meets a professional standard reviewed by peers.
Yes. Boyer Building is a licensed and insured Golden Valley remodeler and builder, and is familiar with Golden Valley’s permitting requirements and inspection process.
Most projects move through five stages: an initial consultation to understand your goals and constraints; a design and budget development phase where the project takes shape on paper; a detailed proposal and contract; construction with a dedicated project manager and lead carpenter; and a final walkthrough plus warranty service. You work with the same core team from start to finish.
The simplest first step is to call our office at 952-475-2097 or send a message through the contact form. We’ll set up an introductory conversation, ask about your home and what you’re hoping to accomplish, and walk through next steps from there.
Yes. Boyer manages the permitting and inspection process with the Golden Valley building department as part of every project scope.
The first conversation — in your home or at our office — is at no cost. Once we move into detailed design work, there’s a design fee that’s clearly outlined upfront. That fee covers the time of our designers and is credited against the project if you move forward into construction.
Not necessarily. Boyer is a design-build firm, which means our in-house design team can take a project from initial concept through construction documents. For projects with unusual structural complexity or historic considerations, we’ll bring in an outside architect when it serves the project. Either way, you have one team accountable for the result.
Yes. We’re glad to share our project portfolio for every community that we serve. Our blog and the project gallery on this site page include completed work throughout the Twin Cities Western Suburbs.
