Award-Winning Tonka Bay Home Remodeler
Tonka Bay was incorporated as a village in 1902, decades after horticulturist Peter Gideon claimed land here in 1864 and propagated the Wealthy apple, an achievement that gave Gideon Bay its name. The 400-foot Lake Park Hotel, later the Tonka Bay Hotel, once hosted over a thousand guests before the tourist era faded and the city settled into a quiet, primarily residential character. Because Tonka Bay sits on a peninsula reaching into Lake Minnetonka, bordered by Gideon Bay, Echo Bay, Carmen Bay, and Lafayette Bay, an unusually high share of its homes are lakefront or lake-access, and that scarcity keeps Tonka Bay one of the most competitive markets on the lake. Boyer Building Corporation is a Tonka Bay builder and remodeler with direct experience on this peninsula, including a recent new-build project on the water.
Tonka Bay Home Remodeling Experts
Tonka Bay’s peninsula geography means nearly every project touches shoreline rules in some way, even homes set back from the water on lake-access lots. A remodeler who works in Tonka Bay regularly learns how the city’s four bays each carry slightly different shoreline and dock considerations, how construction access works on the peninsula’s narrower roads, and what buyers in this competitive, high-value market expect from a finished project. That fluency matters in a city where homes built from the early 1900s onward sit alongside steady, ongoing rebuilding, roughly 50 homes updated or replaced every decade since 1970.

Boyer Building Corporation Remodeling Services
Tonka Bay’s lakefront-heavy housing stock, spanning century-old homes to new construction, rewards a builder who understands the peninsula.
Kitchen Remodeling – Tonka Bay kitchens, especially in newer construction, are built for entertaining, with large islands and butler’s pantries that keep prep work out of sight. In older Tonka Bay homes, we open up more compartmentalized layouts to bring them up to the same standard.
Bathroom Remodeling – Primary bathrooms in area homes range from modest, original spaces in older properties to spa-scale layouts in newer builds. We rebuild toward the latter regardless of where a home starts.
Decks, Porches, and Three-Season Spaces – Given how much of Tonka Bay is lakefront or lake-access, outdoor living is central to nearly every project: decks, upper-level porches positioned for morning sun, docks, and patios engineered to take full advantage of views across Gideon, Echo, Carmen, or Lafayette Bay.
Great Rooms and Main-Level Renovations – Great rooms in newer construction are built open from the start, with the design focus on scaling fireplaces, ceilings, and lighting to the room. In older Tonka Bay homes, opening up separated rooms is a more common starting point.
Lower Level Finishing – Tonka Bay’s lakefront lots often support walkout lower levels finished as genuine living space, guest suites, home gyms, and entertaining areas that make use of the connection to the yard and water beyond.
Exterior Renovation – Exterior remodels are where homes can change identity completely. We coordinate siding, windows, doors, roofing, and trim as one design decision rather than a series of separate projects. The result is an exterior that is truly cohesive.
Home Office – A den or bonus room in a home is a strong candidate for conversion into a home office, particularly in homes with lake views worth designing around.
Bedroom and Primary Suite – Primary suites in newer homes tend to be generously sized. We refine these into composed retreats with considered closets, spa-style baths, and finishes that match the rest of the home.
Specialties – We work with homeowners to reimagine their home with tasteful entrances, stairways, mudrooms, and game rooms. We not only add to their homes’ beauty but also to their utility with thoughtful design and construction.

Remodeling FAQs
All new construction and remodeling work comes with a written warranty that meets or exceeds Minnesota statutory requirements: one year on workmanship and materials, two years on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, and ten years on major structural elements. Beyond the warranty, our team responds to questions and small follow-up items for years after a project closes — that’s part of how referrals get earned.
Recent recognition includes 2025 NARI-MN Remodeler of the Year Gold and Silver awards, the 2025 Housing First ROMA awards, Lake Minnetonka Magazine’s 2024 and 2025 “Best Of” recognition in both the Remodeler and Builder categories, and multiple NARI-MN Contractor of the Year wins going back through 2023. Awards aren’t the reason to hire a builder, but they’re a useful signal that the work meets a professional standard reviewed by peers.
Yes. Boyer Building is a licensed and insured Tonka Bay remodeler and builder, and is familiar with Tonka Bay’s permitting requirements and inspection process.
Most projects move through five stages: an initial consultation to understand your goals and constraints; a design and budget development phase where the project takes shape on paper; a detailed proposal and contract; construction with a dedicated project manager and lead carpenter; and a final walkthrough plus warranty service. You work with the same core team from start to finish.
The simplest first step is to call our office at 952-475-2097 or send a message through the contact form. We’ll set up an introductory conversation, ask about your home and what you’re hoping to accomplish, and walk through next steps from there.
Yes. Boyer manages the permitting and inspection process with the Tonka Bay building department as part of every project scope.
The first conversation — in your home or at our office — is at no cost. Once we move into detailed design work, there’s a design fee that’s clearly outlined upfront. That fee covers the time of our designers and is credited against the project if you move forward into construction.
Not necessarily. Boyer is a design-build firm, which means our in-house design team can take a project from initial concept through construction documents. For projects with unusual structural complexity or historic considerations, we’ll bring in an outside architect when it serves the project. Either way, you have one team accountable for the result.
Yes. We’re glad to share our project portfolio for every community that we serve. Our blog and the project gallery on this site page include completed work throughout the Twin Cities Western Suburbs.
