Situated on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, this home underwent a remarkable, award-winning transformation that redefined both its structure and livability. When compared to the original condition, the completed remodel feels entirely new—yet it remains thoughtfully rooted in its setting. Seeing the before photos, it’s hard to imagine this is the same home.
This multi-space renovation was as complex as it was ambitious. The design demanded precise coordination due to extensive structural requirements and challenging site conditions. Access to the property was extremely limited, with minimal parking along a one-way street and difficult terrain on the lakeside where much of the work occurred. To overcome these obstacles, off-site parking was secured and a temporary trail system was carefully created through the wooded landscape, with terraced grading to safely access the lake-facing side of the home.
A key architectural feature of the renovation is a dramatic room addition elevated nearly ten feet above the walkout level below. This space includes a cantilevered floor and an adjoining deck, both engineered to appear as though they float above the landscape. A suspended roof extends beyond the room’s exterior walls, providing coverage for the deck while maintaining a light, open presence. An open corner design allows large stacking glass doors to retract fully, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection and framing uninterrupted lake views.
The structural solution behind this design was equally impressive. Large steel components were partially fabricated off-site, then carefully craned over the home and secured in place. Precision was critical—foundation piers, walls, and framing had to align exactly to support the suspended elements. Crews worked in close coordination with steel erectors to manage logistics and execution throughout the process.
Beyond the addition, the entire home was reimagined inside and out. Interior spaces were fully remodeled with new finishes, cabinetry, stone flooring, fireplaces, and hardwoods, while the exterior was refreshed to complement the home’s modern lakeside presence. The result is a bold, cohesive transformation—one that elevates design, engineering, and craftsmanship into a truly exceptional Lake Minnetonka home.
