Site & Context

Home / Blog / New Homes / Site & Context

December 13, 2013

Bauman Lake view Horizantal
The setting sun over Lake Minnetonka, light reflecting off the ripples of water as a sailboat passes. This is a picturesque moment captured in time as a memory of this spot, this sanctuary, a refuge from the chaos of the world.

The moment you locate that perfect site for your home is priceless.

The ideal site is picked out, but what about the house? The style of home should match the character of the land just as much as the personality of the owner; it should fit within the landscape and enhance the quality of the setting as much as the lifestyles it will be built to enrich.

Will a home chosen from a catalogue of stock designs built to order like the 1900’s Sears and Roebuck catalogue fit?

In the 1920 Buster Keaton short film One Week (click here to watch) the home arrives in crates, and Buster and his beautiful bride tackle the project of assembling the home-kit, and as it is a Buster Keaton film, you can see the end result.

This is your dream house, everything must be perfect, this is the home you will grow old in. It should mirror your needs and wants as much as your personality and quirks. The home should create a dialogue with the site it inhabits, both working together to enhance the picturesque nature of the landscape and the home; a diamond’s beauty is more than the stone and the sparkle, but the ring it is set into.

If you want a home that is unquestionably yours, put together a team committed to creating unity between your lifestyle, and living environment (an architect, builder, landscape architect, and/or a designer). As in hockey it takes a team working together to get a goal. Our goal is for you to love the home we build for you. Whether we work with you or not, you deserve the home of your dreams.

Here is an example of a recent Boyer home that exemplifies this attention to “site & context”. The Vernacular Revival style of this home fits with the rural nature of the horse farm across the street. The home was skewed on the site to maximise views of the wetlands and of the setting sun. This home will be featured in the 2014 Spring Parade of Homes.
